  • any grade - K-12, college, graduate school, as well as those who are not in school

  • any age - children and adults

  • any level - including those who are falling behind, keeping up, or looking to get ahead

What grades do you tutor?

We tutor students of all grades, including undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as people who are not currently in school.

What kind of tutoring do you offer?

Our private tutoring services are catered to the student:

  • The majority of our clients prefer one-on-one tutoring, where the student works directly with a hand-picked tutor.

  • However, other students may prefer group tutoring sessions with a sibling, classmate, or friend, which is a great cost-saving alternative to one-on-one tutoring.

What subjects do you tutor?

Our primary focus is in mathematics (including subjects such as arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics, etc.). However, many of our teachers are also expert tutors in other subjects, like English, science, social studies, foreign languages, etc. We also tutor for test prep subjects, such as the SAT, ACT, ISEE, AP exams, SAT Subject Tests, SSAT, HSPT, etc.

Where do the tutoring sessions take place?

The majority of our students prefer in-person tutoring, where sessions can be held:

  • in-home

  • at a local cafe

  • at a nearby public library

  • online, using platforms like Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, etc.

  • or at any other location most convenient for you!

Do you tutor online?

Yes, our tutors can conduct lessons online if you prefer. We usually utilize platforms like Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, etc. Many of these software programs allow users to share screens and use digital whiteboards, which makes online learning more interactive and more efficient. Meanwhile, you also have the option to meet with the tutor at home, a local cafe, a public library, a local school, etc.

When are tutoring sessions scheduled?

You can schedule lessons at anytime and on any day of the week, as long as both you and your tutor are available! This includes:

  • mornings, afternoons, and evenings

  • weekdays, weekends, and even holidays.

How long is each tutoring session?

Lessons are a minimum of 1 hour, and can be extended by intervals of 15 minutes.

How often are the lessons?

It's completely up to you! You can schedule as many lessons as you would like, whether they be:

  • at consistent weekly times

  • spread out over a longer time span

  • sporadically on an "on-call" basis

  • all at once in a condensed period

The number of tutoring hours needed will vary depending on your goals and initial assessment. Our expert academic counselors will be able to help determine a good starting point for you. For test prep tutoring (such as for the SAT, ACT, ISEE, HSPT, AP exams, SAT Subject Tests, etc.), we offer a free diagnostic test to help identify areas of weakness. Your tutor will then go over the test with you during your initial session and recommend an appropriate game plan.

Who are your tutors?

Our team of instructors consists of professional educators, all of whom have years of teaching experience, Bachelor's degrees or higher, and thorough understandings of their subject materials. Many of them also have degrees specifically in Education and have experience teaching at various private and public schools. Additionally, all of our tutors have passed criminal background checks. Because of the sheer number of job applications that we constantly receive, we are committed to carefully screening our candidates so that you learn from only the most qualified teachers. For more information on our tutors, click here.

Can I hire David Jia, the founder of LA Math Tutoring, to be my tutor?

Yes, however, due to his busy schedule, he primarily focuses on the business operations of LA Math Tutoring and maintains only a few students. As a result, his tutoring rates are also higher than the rates for the other tutors at the company.

What are your tutoring rates?

Our rates vary and depend on the subject, level, and the number of tutoring hours you wish to purchase at once. Generally, buying more hours upfront would result in higher savings per session. Feel free to contact us so that we can learn more about your goals and provide you with a quote! â€‹â€‹

Is there an application or enrollment fee?

No, there are no hidden costs or fees. You pay only for the time you spend with your tutor.

Do you offer any special packages or discounts?

Yes! Our tutoring rates vary, depending on the subject, level, and the number of tutoring hours you purchase at once. Generally, buying more hours in a package upfront would result in higher savings and bigger discounts per lesson. For more information on our prepaid discount packages, feel free to contact us!

How do I pay for lessons?

All sessions and packages are prepaid. Your academic consultant can assist you to determine which package makes the most sense for you. We will then email you an invoice to be paid online before your first session. We accept major credit cards and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover, as well as PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, and Bitcoin.

Do I pay directly to the tutor?

Our tutors will never accept payments directly from you. All payments must be submitted to our office via our online invoice system. Meanwhile, all of our tutoring plans are prepaid, which means that payments have to be completed before your first session.

Do you have a satisfaction guarantee?

Yes! We are committed to your satisfaction. If you are not satisfied with your tutor for any reason, we will gladly assist in finding you a new tutor and credit your account with one hour of tutoring. You must call us within 24 hours of the session in question in order to receive credit.

What if I have to cancel or arrive late to a tutoring session?

We enforce a 24-hour cancellation policy for all scheduled tutoring sessions. Appointments cancelled less than 24 hours before the scheduled time will be billed as if they had occurred. You are responsible for arriving on time to your scheduled meetings (if not meeting at home) or your tutor’s waiting time will be counted as part of the tutoring hours.

How do I get started?

First, contact us so that we can learn more about what you're looking to accomplish. After our academic counselor assesses your situation, we can strategize a plan that's personalized for you. Then, we will email you an invoice to be paid online before your first tutoring session. Once the invoice is paid, we will connect you with your hand-picked tutor. You two will then move forward with coordinating your lessons. For more information on getting started and how our tutoring services work, click here.
